Thief poses as civic volunteer, robs former councilor's home in Howrah
A sudden fire broke out at a mobile accessories shop on Platform No. 3 of Magrahat Railway Station, causing chaos and panic among passengers and shopkeepers. Due to the tarpaulin-covered roofs, the flames spread rapidly, engulfing several nearby shops in minutes.
Eyewitnesses claim the fire started suddenly, and before anyone could react, it had already damaged multiple stalls selling food, mobile accessories, and other items. Many shopkeepers rushed to save their goods, while others tried to extinguish the flames using buckets of water. However, the fire continued to spread uncontrollably.
Local authorities, including personnel from Diamond Harbour GRP Police and Magrahat Police Station, rushed to the scene upon receiving information. Firefighters were alerted, and efforts to bring the blaze under control were initiated. Police suspect firecrackers might have caused the fire, although an official investigation is underway.
As a precautionary measure, train services on the Diamond Harbour line have been suspended, affecting hundreds of commuters. Many passengers were left stranded at the station, waiting for an update on the situation. Authorities are closely monitoring the fire and the damage caused.
Efforts to extinguish the fire and assess the extent of the loss are ongoing. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. However, several shop owners have suffered heavy financial losses due to the sudden disaster.
